Seeking: A Robust Payment Reader for Australia’s Diverse Cities

When Orikan reached out to ID TECH, they were seeking a robust payment system solution that would meet Australia’s unique payment certifications, including the EFTPOS certification. What’s more, Australia’s subtropical climate brought a unique set of challenges. Summers in major Australian cities like Brisbane bring high temperatures, intense humidity, and frequent thunderstorms. Extended exposure to UV radiation and sudden downpours creates stress and wear on outdoor devices. Therefore, durability and environmental resilience were deemed essential for parking meter payment readers across Orikan’s Australian market.

Enter: Kiosk V

To support its Australian communities, Orikan selected the ID TECH Kiosk V payment reader for its durability, security, and adaptability to parking environments.

ID TECH conducted rigorous prolonged water exposure tests with the Kiosk V, ensuring its reliability in Australia’s most challenging weather conditions. With an IP65 rating for dust and water protection, as well as an IK08 rating for impact resistance, the Kiosk V performs in high humidity, intense UV exposure, and heavy rain. Durable and weather resistant, the Kiosk V ensures dependable service for Australian parking users year-round.

In addition to extreme durability, Orikan also required a certified contactless payment solution to support EFTPOS transactions. In response, ID TECH prioritized the EFTPOS certification for the Kiosk V, ensuring it met the specific requirements of the local markets. As a result, the Kiosk V enables Orikan to confidently process EFTPOS payments, delivering a frictionless and secure transaction experience to their customers.

A host of other impressive features set the Kiosk V apart from other available solutions. Paramount to any payment environment, security was a priority for Orikan. The Kiosk V’s PCI 6.X certification aligned perfectly with Orikan's secure payment standards.

Designed for speed and efficiency, the Kiosk V can complete NFC transactions in just half the time of the industry standard. This saves valuable time for drivers making payments at parking meters and ensures a seamless and convenient parking experience.

Plus, the Kiosk V’s low power consumption offers a high-performance payment reader that is compatible with the limited energy resources available for on-street parking solutions.

To help Orikan integrate the Kiosk V into their parking meters, ID TECH’s strong technical team provided exceptional support to ensure smooth implementation, especially at the early stage of the project. During the integration stage, one of the most complex aspects was generating a new key and working with Orikan’s payment gateway partner, TNS, to achieve the necessary L3 certification for the Australian market. The process, however, proceeded smoothly due to the diligent efforts of the ID TECH technical team, who coordinated with Orikan to ensure timely certification and adherence to the expected schedule.

The Result

Orikan began its Australian expansion with Kiosk V deployments in Brisbane, where nearly 1,000 units were installed by early 2024. They then expanded into North Sydney, Darwin, and Adelaide, totaling 1,500 devices. The Kiosk V’s rugged build and efficiency, along with its robust certifications, enabled Orikan to provide a seamless payment experience across various cities with differing environmental conditions and certification requirements.
