Customer Story
How ViaTouch Media's VICKI smart store uses ID TECH's VP3300 OEM and Worldnet's GoChip SDK to deliver a fully contactless, self-checkout retail experience.
Tap-to-pay has become a standard way to buy, letting shoppers pay with a contactless card, phone, or wearable in about a second. For years the U.S. trailed other markets in adopting the technology. That changed quickly: businesses moved to add contactless terminals to reduce shared touchpoints at checkout, and EMV contactless transactions carry stronger security than mag-stripe.
Today most new terminals ship contactless-capable, and a growing share of face-to-face transactions happen at contactless-enabled merchants. Card brands raised transaction limits to encourage tap-to-pay, and the shift reached every environment, including retail and unattended machines.
Unattended and automated retail machines sell everything from headphones in an airport to snacks and drinks in a grocery store. As these machines moved to cashless payments and connected to a payment backend, operators wanted more than a card slot. They needed a self-checkout experience that was fast, touch-free, secure, and easy to brand, without taking on the burden of PCI compliance themselves.
VICKI, from kiosk specialists ViaTouch Media, is an AI-powered smart store built for touch-free, self-checkout retail. It acts as a virtual attendant that can answer product questions, arrange advance pickups, and adapt to different product shapes and sizes. VICKI also supports health and safety features, including UV-C lighting that cleans products and interior surfaces after each use.
VICKI pairs ID TECH's VP3300 OEM reader with Worldnet's GoChip SDK. The VP3300 OEM handles secure, reliable NFC transactions in an unattended setting. GoChip is a pre-certified software framework that ViaTouch's developers integrated around their own point-of-sale, customizing the payment flow to the VICKI brand while Worldnet handled the payments layer.
Worldnet's end-to-end encryption protects both cardholder and merchant, so the operator does not carry the security or PCI compliance overhead. A polling feature keeps the VP3300 OEM always ready: the shopper simply presents a card, chooses an item, and the purchase is charged automatically. No button press, no attendant, no shared surface.

Contactless payment is now a routine part of everyday shopping, and cash continues to give way to card and mobile options across retail and unattended environments. Investing in contactless today lays the groundwork for what comes next. The combination of ID TECH, Worldnet, and ViaTouch Media in VICKI shows how high-value retail and customer safety can work together in one machine.
